Our entrances are one of the most important yet under decorated spaces in our homes. Our entrances are the gateway and transition point between the inside of our home and the outside world. They are the first thing we see when entering our space, so setting the tone with a lovely decorated entry is key.

If you are a lover of antique and vintage objects and pieces, then a little extra attention is needed in decorating this space. While antique décor is quirky, unique, and ornate, it does have the tendency to feel like a thrift shop or flea market if overdone.

Here are seven tips and tricks you can use in making sure that doesn’t happen!

Get some Landscape Oil Paintings

Landscape scenes are a dime a dozen in thrift shops and vintage stores. Yet these pieces of art are making a comeback in homes. That’s because they are works of art! While they are not painted by Van Gogh or Monet, they are beautiful pieces of work and detail. Having one displayed in your entry is classy and a bit unique. It is a sure way to strike up a conversation, and some imagery of a natural landscape is a perfect way to transition from the outdoors into your home.

Add an Antique Console Table

Every entry space needs a landing pad. What I mean is that there has to be somewhere to set down keys, mail, and packages when you enter your home. That is why a console table is great for these areas! A wooden antique console with some turned legs or ornate features is a funky and fabulous piece to place in your entry space.

Opt for a Runner

Oriental and Turkish rugs are such statement pieces, so added to your entry, they're a sure way to make an impact for anyone entering your home. Rugs are great for these spaces because they act as a grounding element for the furniture in this area and also help to create a ‘zone’. Often times, entrances are a part of another larger room such as a hallway or living room. A rug designates this area from the rest. A rug or runner also helps to capture and trap the dirt and debris that our shoes track in, keeping the rest of our home nice and neat.

Try a Blue & White Porcelain Vase or Jar

Blue and white porcelain vases and ginger jars are quite stunning and certainly iconic of antique and vintage décor. With your stunning new (well, new to you) console table, you need something decorative to add to your bare tabletop. That is where the porcelain vase or jar comes in. Whether standing alone, paired, or with a bouquet of fresh flowers, it is a beautiful piece to decorate your entrance with.

Find a Funky Brass Sculpture

With brass being a design trend that is currently hot right now, bring it into your home in a unique way. Brass objects were quite popular back in the day, and you could find anything from a brass hedgehog sculpture to a pair of cobra candlesticks. These unique objects are typically one of a kind nowadays and can bring in a fun and quirky personality to your space. At the front of your entry, it is a great way to wow guests as they enter your home.

Add a Bit of Practicality in with a Table Lamp

While a lot of the pieces added to the entryway are purely decorative in nature, it does not hurt to throw in a practical piece. Say hello to the table lamp. You can find a traditional looking lamp with a pretty base and stylish shade that not only offers beauty but function. Having a table lamp is a great way to light up your entry when arriving late at night to your home. Just be sure to make sure that the scale of the lamp isn’t too big for the console table it sits on!

Keep Things Simple

One of the biggest tips in decorating with antiques is that less is more! When we pile on the vintage tabletop pieces and ornate wall art, that is when our spaces tend to feel stuffy. Opt for a couple of vintage pieces for your entry. Especially since the entry ways tend to be smaller spaces, don’t overcrowd it with things!

Try a few of these tips out in your entry way and transform your space into one that is soothing as soon as you step through your door.
