A beautiful example of late 19th-century English transferware, this antique ironstone plate by L. Straus & Sons features the richly detailed “Garfield” pattern, No. 8844, dating to the Aesthetic Movement era, circa 1885.
Rendered in warm brown transfer decoration, the pattern combines stylized florals and botanical motifs characteristic of Aesthetic-period design. The intricate decoration and softly aged ironstone give the plate the wonderful character that makes antique English transferware so appealing in a collected interior.
Measuring approximately 8" in diameter, it is an ideal size for display on an easel, layered into a hutch or cabinet, or incorporated into a gallery wall of antique transferware and English ceramics.
